Hey All, My name is Greg and I am new to BP, and looking into doing some real estate investing. I am local here in the DFW area. I currently work full time which is how a lot of people start out. I wanted to ask are there any investors who started out working elsewhere and transitioned into investing only? Anyone reading this, how did you start out? Are you or do you plan to get to real estate only ? Looking forward to network locally here in the area!

I started investing evenings and weekend back in 2007. Worked a plan to try and get 100 apartments within 10 years and quit my JOB....got to 31 apartments in 3-4 years and realized it was taking to long and I might actually need 150 apartments. So I transitioned to commercial real estate (specifically self storage). I quit my job Sept 28th 2011 and closed on my storage facility on Sept. 29th 2011.  It was losing almost $2000 at the time but we had a plan (and no kids or big house/fancy cars) to hold us back so with my wife's support, I took the plunge.  Havent looked back since.  That first facility is now 3x the size as it was when I bought it and I own one other.  I consider myself 100% UNEMPLOYABLE and intend to remain that way forever more;)
