RENEW RENTAL LICENSE & LEAD PAINT
I need to renew my rental license pretty soon for a 3 family home. In order to renew my license last year, I had to pay to get the lead test. One of them had apparently failed, so my property manager suggested a cleaning, then re-testing, which is what I did. After some back and forth (of course me paying a bunch more for retesting, cleaning, etc) I got the certificate.
My understanding is that I need to do this every year in order to get the rental license. Is this true? If so, isn't this a bit silly, can lead magically appear after it was already tested last year? Anyway, can't we lobby the City of Philadelphia to get rid of this retesting every year requirement or is there something I'm missing??? I mean I'm all about safety but it seems silly to do it every single year. Plus, what if a tenant doesn't want some people in their apartment every year....because of covid...or simply because it's annoying to have someone in your home...you have to schedule it, be home during a span of time, because nobody gives a set time anymore.
