Hard to replace doors

Brandon Metz
Posted

I am putting the final touches on my property so i can purchase and house hack into a new duplex and get my current unit rent ready, however i have run into what seems like it should be a simple problem. I need to replace 4 doors but i cannot find a good deal anywhere my doorways are all 76 inches instead of 80 so buying a hollow core door and trimming it wont work and everyone is only offering custom cut which is running nearly $400 a door. Does anyone know any retailers that can do this cheaper or where too buy a decent solid slab i can cut myself. I cant seem to find anything anywhere.

@Brandon Metz I've experienced similar issues remodeling property. Do you still have the original doors?

A lot of times it's easier to renovate the old doors. The house I currently live was build in the 1930s finding new doors is a challenge. Some the best entryway doors on older homes are amazingly strong with SOLID core wood. Fixing them up can really add value if you're planning to flip or sell the property. It's rare but you could reframe the opening but that's more expensive and time consuming.
