Workers Compensation Question
Hi All,
I am in the process of wrapping up my first project. As expected, I had some troubles with the GC on quality of work, what was agreed to VS what was done, etc. I have met a lot of good workers in different trades that I would like to hire on my own next time, my only concern is not having workers compensation for them if something happens and one of them gets injured. Not only will it be bad for them, but it has the potential to turn my business upside down. Is there anyway around this. I am not a licensed contractor, and I have an LLC set up, but I would most likely pay these guys as contract employees. Thoughts?
Thanks,
Ben

We run the guys we want through a local temp agency, they do cost more per hour but all the required paperwork & WC coverages are in place.
You still need good liability coverage but here several Ins Companies do offer project specific liability insurance, (short term) to cover job related injuries etc.
If things don't work out a temp can be sent home at will. We had a great drywall guy (we temped) but he began showing up drunk so we sent him home & had a new guy the next day.
