Ideas for hideous brass finishes on gas fireplace

Hi everyone - when I bought my current property I immediately replaced every doorknob and light fixture that was the 90's style shiny brass or good finish. One of the only things left is the finish work on the gas fireplace. It's black with the shiny gold accents.

My only thought is to get some high-heat paint and just paint it black to match the rest of the fireplace.

I'm sure you rehabbers come across these types of inserts all the time. What's your trick?

Thanks!
