Curb appeal suggestions please

Hello BP Community, I recently purchased two 4 plexs and need help adding curb appeal. Buildings are located in Sumner, WA (Tacoma area).

The buildings were built in 1948, are masonry block construction and originally had a flat torch down roof. In the early 70's instead of re-roofing/covering the existing roof the owner opted to add the pitched roofs. I live in Western WA and with our rain this makes sense.

I'm struggling with how to add curb appeal. My ideas are the following:

  • Add awnings to windows on side of buildings. I think the awning in the pic is too large so I'm reducing it's size.
  • Add shutters to the front windows (Would awnings on the front look odd with the porch?)
  • General yard clean up, edging, etc.
  • Any suggestions would be appreciated.
