ABS to PVC transitions - Rubber coupling

I’m confused about ABS to PVC transitions - Rubber coupling Vs Glue.

Drywall wall is not put back yet and I can remove the rubber coupling and use the Glue to connect ABS to PVC.

Plumber is used the rubber coupling. Is it good and acceptable to use rubber coupling?

The coupling looks OK, assuming that it's designed for the outside diameters of the pipes, but the notch in the joist is bad. It weakens the joist significantly. I don't know the best procedure to compensate for the notch, but you need something.
