Soundproofing apartment ceiling

Hello All. I currently live in an apartment building in Northern New Jersey where we can hear the upstairs neighbors walking and talking and while we got used to this with upstairs neighbors that are fairly respectful, any kids or dogs moving in will probably lead us to move out unless we can soundproof sucessfully This is your cookie cutter wood apartment building, no insulation, etc. Has anyone done this in the past with sucess? . I have researched this online and seems theres several ways to do this but wondering if anyone has done it with sucess as im afraid some of what im reading is just marketing for certain products If anyone has references for contractors that have done this before in NJ, that would be greatly appreciated Emil
