"Paint" Asphalt Shingles?

Anyone have any experience in changing the color of the existing asphalt roof shingles without actually replacing them? Is there a special paint, stain, or sealant that'll do the trick? I'm looking to make a switch from brick red to a dark grey/black.

I am a roofing contractor in Texas. There are several products that will achieve what you are trying to do. Send me an e-mail with some details such as roof age, condition, type, etc. Whatever you do, you do, just want to ensure it does not void any mfg. warranty.
Some systems will even offer a reflective capability that will act as a radiant barrier. This would qualify the project for the 30% energy efficient tax credit offered by the fed.
