Whole House Iron Filter
Hi all, for my personal house, we are looking for a whole house iron filter. Clearly, we are on well water and are having a bit of an issue that we'd like to correct prior to the remodel of bathrooms. We currently have a *water conditioner" instead of a softener so we can't just use the red-out salt, which works in my area.
Anyway, I'd like a basically maintenance free type filter and there seems to be several kinds. Some have various media and back wash. The one that looks interesting is the air type that oxidizes the water coming in and then filters it out then back washes the filter.
Does anyone have experience with these systems (any of them)? I've been researching these but have no personal experience nor do I know anyone who's used these.
For example the media type supposedly needs to be teplaced every 5 years or so, is this true or is it sooner? For the air type, I've read (from a supplier of the media type) that the head needs to be cleaned out every year. Is this true?
Are both effective? Is one more effective than the other?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
