Gravel Driveway *How To"

I have a SFR that desperately needs a driveway. I wanted to put in a gravel driveway. I was trying to get away with 9 tons of #57 gravel ($16 ton). Does anyone think I will have issues if I do not come back over it with a lime dust aggregate or put down a #1 base? The old driveway was put down 12 years ago and looks like a yard again.

I never did give feedback on this post. Thanks to everyone. I used #2 as a base and #11 on top. http://www.earth-first.com/driveway-gravel.html. Then had a contractor with a bobcat dig a spot and compact the gravel. Project cost $700 to $900. Gravel was about 60% of the cost.
