Recommendations fo asbestos abatement companies in Austin TX?

Posted

1800 sq ft home; 4 bedrooms / 2 baths. Are there any contractors out there licensed in asbestos removal that y'all recommend?

Whats the asbestos from? What is the extent of the project? If you are doing a full rehab on it, I just have my contractors remove it ( the popcorn ceiling) and then retexture / paint. On my first rehab, I removed it myself - just had to wear one of those respirator masks. And in the end I had to replace all of the drywall anyways but I did some research on it and people remove their own popcorn ceiling all the time - I think that hiring an asbestos abatement company would be significantly more expensive.

Also while doing research on it, I found that you need quite a bit of exposure for health risks with asbestos.

In WA state if you are a GC and don't have the jobsite tested and post the results it can be fined and on the hook for a lot with Worker's Compensation by handing off a known risk to sub or contractor and improperly dumping hazardous materials improperly.  It's either do it yourself on the sly and try to dispose of it carefully (there are special bags you can get for disposal) or over pay for a state authorised abatement specialist.  There are a lot of these state run scams in my opinion.

Betst of luck
