Steam Boiler Maintenance

Charlie Clough

Posted

I bought a 3 flat in Albany Park in October of last year. I recently had The Steam Whisperers come out for annual maintenance and they said the boiler needs to be replaced. I’m not experiencing any issues with the system. I feel they are reputable, but was looking to get a second opinion as a new one will cost me $10-15k. Does anyone have a company that they’ve worked with in the past for steam boilers that they would recommend?

I’m also curious if anyone has experience with transitioning units from boilers to furnace heat.

Thanks!

@Charlie Clough I would definitely look to transition this property to forced air IF the steam boiler is really dead. A lot of boiler companies are alarmists as they make a lot of money doing these boiler installs. Check in with @Ronan M. to see who he uses on his boilers. I have a local guy here in the western suburbs who has done a nice job for me, and he has repaired equipment that other companies have stated wouldn't last. The same equipment made it through the polar vortex with no issues.
