30k self directed IRA ideas
Hey BP community, I am looking for some creative ideas on what investment vehicles you would explore and try with 30k in a self directed IRA this year.
I am already building a STR portfolio and have separate funds for that. Have a LTR portfolio that is what it is and bores me.
Looking to have a little fun with this amount that might provide me to get solid returns but allow me to learn some new skills working with a new product/avenue.
Any ideas out there? What would you do?
Thanks in advance!
Jonathan

I'm not a financial advisor, etc. and all the rest of the disclosures, but given you are invested in it - I'm assuming you want to have the tax deferred account. Given that, I would stick to what you know best in your Self Directed IRA. Once you get the funds in there, it doesn't make sense to experiment/learn on something that is more likely to result in loss of principal (since it is new/you are learning). I'm not saying this regarding the risk profile of the suggestions, I'm saying it relative to your knowledge and experience. I totally agree with and support expanding and learning, I just wouldn't allocate that in my retirement accounts.
My soap box aside, I personally invest in loan/note funds and in my SDIRA. I do this for three reasons.
1. I know this area very well
2. The asset investment is the most tax inefficient of my desired investment areas, so I put it in my tax deferred account where that doesn't matter
3. I'm really conservative on self dealing, etc. with my retirement accounts so I don't risk doing anything that could some day be considered active by me - the funds are the best way I've found to do that.
