Has anybody had to deal with a total lack of support for their spouse or loved one when beginning their investing career? How did you deal with this? My wife is very hesitant for me to start investing again now that we've moved to Kansas City, and I'm not sure what to do.

You're either in this together, or you're not in it at all. I'm not much good on relationship advice but I can tell you a rule that's worked for us; if one says NO, then it's NO.

You say she's hesitant to start investing "again" since moving. Again implies you've had another foray in REI.

How successful was that one?

What was the cause of the move?

How is your overall financial situation?

How astute an investor (of any kind) are you? I read a lot of horror stories about "investors" who've never been in REI suddenly going to a seminar and the next thing they know they've signed up for a couple of deals about which they know NOTHING. For a very recent example of this see the thread started by "nicenurse" on Saturday about the boat her parents are in.

REI is not for everyone, in fact it's not appropriate for MOST people. It requires a certain mindset, skillset and PATIENCE. There are a lot of successful investors hanging on this site. I don't know any of them who've "gotten rich quick". Most of us have been at this for a looooong time, built our portfolio slowly and carefully, and have waited years to truly reap the rewards of the RISKS that we took when we were younger.
