Location for a STR near the Bay Area

I used to live in the Bay Area (now based in Asia) and still own a home in Campbell. Im looking to spend a few months per year near the Bay Area to be close to family and friends but don't want to leave my home vacant for the rest of the time. Due to HOA restrictions, I cannot use that as an STR. So its a long term rental unit now.

So my thought was to buy another home close (within 3+ hours) of the Bay Area which I could stay in while I am there and use as STR for the rest of the year. Looking for suggestions for locations. Ideally looking at $350K range but possible up to $500K values. Close to a lake or mountains or scenic area with tourism would be good for the STR.

Any ideas?
