Section 8 in Massachusetts
Hi everyone I need some advice
I have recently bought a condo with tenant in place and an agreed upon rent price. After speaking with her I learned that she is on disability and 90% of her income goes to rent. The rent on this unit is below market rate and if i lower the rent anymore for her I will be in the red. My question is should I apply to be a section 8 landlord and have her apply for section 8? From the research I have done it looks like I could get market rate for the condo and my tenant could pay less.
All guidance would be much appreciated.
Thank you
Ryan

There is often a waiting list for a section 8 voucher depending on the area so I think you tenant needs to apply on their own and come back with a voucher or find someplace more affordable. You have to honor the lease but honestly I don't know how they do that unless they are also working under the table. If this is not permanent total disability then a there is an end in site but sounds like you think it is permanent.
