Thoughts on The Big Game

Last Sunday (2/5/2012) was the BIG GAME. If you watched it, I hope you enjoyed the close game while watching with friends and laughing at and picking the best commercials.

If your team won, Congratulations. If you cheered for the other team then … there is always next year.

If you did watch, then you saw two organizations each composed of many people all working towards a common goal – to win it all. If you interviewed the players or coaches and asked them about their schedules, they would tell you that that during the season, they have one focus … winning the next game.

Chuck Noll, NFL coach and 4 time Super Bowl winner said:
“The key to a winning season is focusing on one opponent at a time. Winning one week at a time. Never look back and never look ahead”

In many ways owning and running a business is like competing in a professional sport. Set a goal; focus 110% of your attention on achieving that goal; prepare, prepare, prepare.

Does one of your goals require more inventory? More equipment? More marketing? If you need funding to make changes, ask me about different funding options.

What is your big goal?
What is your next target?
What will it take to increase your sales by 5% or 10% this month? Making ten more phone calls or sending ten more emails? If you increased your sales by 5% in 3 of the next 5 months, how would your sales compare to last year numbers?

Are you tracking your efforts and results?

Are you prepared for the next opportunity? What if a supplier has a half-price sale on the items that you need? What if a competitor across town calls and asks you to buy out his/her business? Are you ready?

No specific goals? It is never too late make some. Training camp starts TODAY!
