First, I have no idea if global warming is a real phenomenon or not, so I'm not arguing either way... (personally, if I had to *guess*, I would think average temperatures are increasing, but it has nothing to do with anything we've done, it's just a natural planetary cycle, but who knows)...

But I digress...

Two things:

- Global warming actually predicts severe weather patterns across the globe, including severe colder weather phenomena. Weather is a lot more complex than just saying, "the average temps are increasing, therefore everywhere must be getting hotter every day."

- Again, weather and climate are very different things. Just because the weather is cold this winter says nothing about long-term climate patterns.

Remember, it sometimes rains in the Sahara, but that doesn't mean it's not still a desert...just because something defies your personal common sense doesn't mean it defies the laws of science...

In fact, I find it very amusing when non-scientists think they have enough data and understand enough about climate patterns that they can say for certain whether global warming is real or not. When someone claims they know for certain that global warming is real (or not real), I take that to mean that they don't appreciate the complexity of the scientific method and the difficulty in evaluating the changes to a complex ecosystem.

It's like a average guy looking at a 200-story skyscraper and thinking he can determine whether it's architecturally sound just by pushing on it... ("hmmm...it's not budging...must be pretty sturdy!")

Sorry, the world is not that simple...even if people desperately want/need to believe it is...I guess that's why religion is so popular...
