Wiretaps: Justified or Illegal Action by President Bush
I think I may open a small can of worms here, but I'm curious what you all think of the wiretap controversy happening in Washington. Do you think that Bush is justified in his actions here, or if he's going overboard in a powergrab.
Personally, I think he has overstepped his reach. Yes, we're at war. That never gave a President the right to violate the laws of the U.S. Just because it may be more effective in protecting us, that does not give the president the right to play judge and jury here. Without a warrant, he should not have the right to unilaterally decide about wire tapping citizens in the US - terrorist or not. I'm saddened by this news, and my hopes for the great American democracy continue to fade here.
I hope our legislature does an investigation here and does not get bullied by the White House machine.
I would, however, like to hear other opinions here, whether or not you agree with me.
Lets keep it civil, though.
