Interested in assisting Interior Designer or Decorators

Hello!

I have debated on making this post for a few months now but decided to try and see if anyone can help. I am interested in interior decorating / designing and residential drafting. I have no degree in either, and currently do not have the funds to attend college to get a degree in either. However, I have helped a couple people with extremely basic home layouts when they were in the process of remodeling their home. So far I have gotten good feedback and I think the best way to learn is by doing and by learning from real life scenarios. I am wanting to connect or shadow with interior designers, decorators, or even project managers, just so I can get my foot in the door and understand all aspects of a construction process.

The help I have provided with a few home remodels has consisted of kitchen and bathroom layouts, flow and functionality, fixtures and finishes of the home, all while trying to stay within budget.  I have a one year background as a general contractor but decided I was not ready yet so I decided to stop. Then I helped friends or people who I was recommended to with basic remodel suggestions while staying up to code. Overall, I know the very basics of design but I want to learn more. I also think that as more house flippers are on the rise and if they do not have the funds to pay for an interior designer or decorator maybe I can do some consulting. I have seen a few house flips where I could tell there was no effort in thinking about the functionality of the space and how that affects their sale.

With my interest in learning more I have researched or looked for jobs nearby but I have noticed that the design community in Eugene is fairly small and most seem to only be a one person job. Also, most require a degree in interior design, which I do not have. I understand this career it would be helpful to have a degree but I have also learned that some people learn more and progress more by doing.

So to end this post, if anyone happens to know of someone who can provide such knowledge or who may need assistance that would be amazing! Thank you!
