Turning a closet into an office.
Hello everyone! Thank you so much for providing this awesome resource!
My wife and I have been homeowners together for almost 5 years now; I've finally got her on board to rent our home out or purchase investment properties. We are still reading, researching, and saving money before we can buy our first unit.
In the meantime, we are living in a 1400 sq ft 3-bedroom home. We have a daughter and another baby on the way. Currently, the third bedroom is serving as our home office, but my wife wants to convert it into the new baby's room. She wants to purchase custom built ins to convert our current master closet into the new home office space and then put 2 large Ikea wardrobe units in the master.
I'm concerned that the "rentability" of the home could deteriate if there is no walk in closet. The custom office unit and wardrobes will total about $2k and I think that's too much money. My wife thinks it will add value to the home because she thinks work from home parents will want to rent.
Does anyone have any suggestions or opinions on doing this?
Will it detract from the value of the home?
Will renters be less likely to choose our property if there is no master walk in closet?
Your advice is greatly appreciated, thank you.
