Beginning Multifamily investor - Houston TX, Engineer, Aggies
Great to meet the BiggerPockets community, from my initial glance it appears to be a dynamic and friendly group.
My name is Brian Pownall and I reside in north Houston. My background is a Texas A&M graduate who has worked as an oil and gas engineer for an E&P for ~9 years. Over that time I focused in reservoir engineering with about half my experience in asset management and half in business development. In 2019 I made the decision to join a private equity portfolio company and have been on the private side the last 18 months.
I am very entrepreneurial in nature and enjoy technical evaluations, building out asset cash flow models, making presentations to management, and working with a fast paced / skilled team. Multifamily real estate is extremely appealing to me given my background in engineering and business development along with the opportunity to learn a new space and eventually generate meaningful cash flow.
I wanted to write this post to both introduce myself and humbly ask for any advice more of you seasoned individuals would have. Although I am only about one month into research and discussions, I have enjoyed the networking calls and learning material. My goal is to end this month teeing up 2021 so that I can be part of at least 1 syndication team next year and continue ramping from there.
- What advice would you give to yourself if you were back in the first month or two of your MF journey?
- What are the best steps to take to quickly ramp up my experience and lend a hand on a syndication team(s)?
- Any networking opportunities, intro calls, or more are welcome
- If you are tight on time equity and have a need for someone to assist on market analysis, cash flow modeling, or helping with deal flow in return for exposure to the industry let me know.
Appreciate any and all feedback, thank you.
Brian
