Hello from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Hello everyone,

My name is Dave, a 35 year-old from LA/OC area but I’ve based in Vietnam for the last 4 years teaching English here. I’m originally from from VN so I’m fluent in both Vietnamese and English (or just terrible at both!)

My journey with real estate has been a long time coming. For some reasons I’ve always been fascinated with real estate, so real estate/finance was my focus in college but really didn’t learn much there. I learned more in the last month on BiggerPockets and youtube than the whole 4 years in college. Like most people from here, I read Rich Dad, Poor Dad a few months ago and it flipped a switch in my mind. I actually read the book in college for the 1st time but it didn’t register with me. Now it makes perfect sense.

I realize that there’s no freedom without financial freedom so now that’s my journey...I have a 10 year plan to be financially free! I plan to move back to the states next year and get started on my 1st deal. Looks like there are some investment opportunities here in Vietnam as well, but there’s a lot more limitation if you’re not a citizen here, and the communist bureaucracy makes it even more complicated. But if anyone is interested in looking into deals here, I could share my knowledge about the region and give a hand! In the meantime, I’m educating myself and rehabbing my student loan. I’m also working on an e-commerce biz, selling on Amazon.

I still have a lot to learn and very excited to be on this new journey. I haven’t felt this alive and motivated in a long time. Now at the age of 35 (better late than never!), I finally have a plan and roadmap to achieve financial freedom. To be honest, I don’t care how long it’s going to take because I’m just really enjoying learning and working on real estate and when it comes, it comes.

Thanks for reading my intro.

Happy investing!

Dave
