Beginner from Columbus, GA

I am an Army Officer currently stationed at Ft Benning, GA.  I'm beginning my transition out of the military and am looking to real estate investing as my career after the army.  I am brand new to investing and would love to pick the brains of any experienced investors in my area.  

I have been consuming a lot of information from the Bigger Pockets Forums and Podcast, but I'm still a little unsure on which direction I want to start with. My long term goal is to get into fixing and flipping, but I am hesitant about diving right in to that. Is the BRRRR method recommended for newbies? Or would you recommend finding a property that is already cash flowing and has long term tenants? If anyone has any recommendations, that would be much appreciated. Thanks!
