New-ish to Bigger Pockets and 1st Time Posting

Brian Martin
Posted

Hello BP Community,

I started listening to the Bigger Pockets podcasts last summer and joined after my first webinar. I am still learning and developing a plan/direction for my 1st deal. I invested in a development project a few months ago that is expected to start paying quarterly returns in Q3 of 2020 so I guess you I could consider that my 1st deal but I am looking more towards a flip or BRRR opportunity as an official 1st. I am attending my first Milwaukee REIA meeting this Tuesday so I look forward to meeting some fellow BP members.

I am excited to begin my journey in REI and developing my path to financial freedom through real estate. I am in Oconomowoc focusing on the greater Milwaukee area or possibly out in the direction of Madison.

They always say on the podcast to put get in the forums and put out that first post as a newbie so here I am.

I am looking to learn so any advice or direction for a newbie is welcome.

Cheers!

@Brian Martin welcome to BP! I remember when I started investing over ten years ago, it was a little scary and very exciting! Going to REIA meetings helps a lot, because you realize you are not the only guy with a crazy idea out there.

I estimate that we have well over 1200, maybe 1500 active investors in the Milwaukee area, some of them are part of the different organizations like Brew City Group (join on FB), Milwaukee REIA and the Appartment Association, many are very private and you will never see. You will meet some seasoned people at the REIA, but mostly newbs, a lot of great people, but always a few shady characters who try to "make deals" or "raise money". So be careful who you trust..

Another tip - set up keyword alerts here on BP for Madison, Milwaukee and Wisconsin or any other keyword you are interested in.

    Good luck!
