Hi Friends

What an awesome place this is to start the journey in real estate. It's all of you who make BP such a great place, so I want to start my first post by saying Thank You to all of you who make BP what it is.

I recently immigrated to the United States from India. Well, not so recent - about 6 years ago. I live in Manhattan, New York City with my wife & 2 young kids. I should say that am not a total newbie. I have done some deals overseas but none here. I have a condo in Sydney (Aus) that is now an investment unit (formerly owner occupied). Its currently breaking even with cashflow. I have a property management company handling that unit, and I haven't visited the place in 5 years. I also have 2 townhomes in India which fully paid up and is generating retirement income for parents. Parents manage it for themselves.

Currently I live in an owner-occupied condo in NYC. I also had a interesting (scarastic) experience working with NYC contractors and everything that comes with renovating my condo in Manhattan - city & building regulations, dealing with ego issues with the building super and contractor... the works. It was straight out of the firehose.

Professionally, I am a W-2 in one of the top 5 tech companies; In my free time I also write algos to trade Futures.

I'd like to dip my toes in investing here in the U.S. but I am unfamiliar with anywhere else besides NJ and CT. I also have some equity in my current condo in Manhattan, NYC, and I can raise funds. I would like to start small - so NYC is out of the question for now.

There are so many options - single family, multi family, mobile parks etc., that I don't know where to start. My goals are to build equity for kids college, retirement and potentially a vacation home somewhere.

It'd be great to attend local events in her NYC and hear from investors here. where are you guys investing in?

Looking forward to spending more time here.

Finally a quick thanks to Youtube for showing me BiggerPockets. Machine Learning is working after all..ha ha

@Madan Sampath Welcome to BP. Sounds like you have some useful knowledge that will take you far in RE. I would recommend networking at local events and doing some market research, identifying your income goals and crtieria so you can narrow down and focus on the avenue that will help you achieve your long term goals. I can tell your “why” is strong and with that alone you can be successful in this business.

There is an upcoming event in NYC in the coming weeks, hosted by @Darren Sager. If you can make it, i hope to connect with you there! Best wishes on your journey. Happy to offer any insight.
