New in Northern Utah
(This post was longer than I intended...)
My name is Michael Major and I, similar to thousands of others on BP, am interested in getting into buy-and-hold rentals. My area of interest is Northern Utah so my family and I can be selfishly closer to family. I aim to start investing through "house hacking". My motivation for getting into real estate has multiple angles, but the short version is so I can work in a position that allows my to use my hands and my head while giving my the flexibility to create memories with my family. Financial freedom was also a nice bonus on top.
I'm originally from the Logan, Utah area, but have been away from Utah for 3 years while I attend school in Rexburg, Idaho. Currently, I am doing an internship in Bozeman, Montana as an Assistant Property Manager and have been since April of this year. I will graduate July 2020 at the age of 24 with a degree in Business Management/Finance, which took three and a half years, with zero debt and two kids (one is on the way). Needless to say, I am not your average student.
I was going to say that I Iove to learn, but I felt that was incorrect. I NEED to learn. I mean, half the reason I'm in college is to learn for the sake of learning. For the longest time I thought I wanted to be a Mechanical Engineer since I loved knowing how everything worked. When our first VHS player broke I instantly cracked that sucker open to see what broke and if I, as a 10 year old, could fix it. That kind of curiosity only grew with age and, to keep a long story short, I became engrossed in the idea of passive income and financial freedom through buy-and-hold rental properties. Yes, I have read Rich Dad, Poor Dad.
I love anything that has to do with a frisbee: frisbee golf, ultimate frisbee, playing catch, etc. My exercise of choice is running, which fits well with frisbee related activities and my outlets of choice are games and books. My wife and I are proud of our growing collection of board/card games with a few video games, but love to invite friends and neighbors over at least once a week. I am a nerd and proud of it! Right now I am a newbie DM for a group of newbie DnD players and loving it.
I've held a BP account for about two years now, but haven't gotten around to posting anything until now. Despite my absence, I have learned a ton through study and through hands-on experience. I'm excited to pull the trigger on my first deal after graduation.
Feel free to ask any questions!
