MLS access and being an agent?

Question

Do I need to be a Real Estate agent to get MLS access? Would I only need to get my license and just renew? What about REA association fees, would I need those? Im still struggling with the idea and thinking I just want to be an investor.

If you're considering just getting your licence to do you own deals...don't. It's not worth the time, money, or effort. It will actually put more onus on you, the "professional", when you're doing deals. Instead, partner with an experienced agent.

@Seth Ferguson see I was thinking the same thing while trying to get my one year old ready for bed 😏. I feel like instead of trying to find my own access to MLS and wrap myself around something I’m going to quit anyways… I should focus my efforts on finding a really good agent (prederably one who understands RE investing) like you said, who can help me.

@A. Maldonado I mean google your local MLS and call them on the phone.  You could ask a local Realtor for contact info if you can't find it with a web search.

It might help to know that there isn't one single MLS.

Even here in MA there are three.  MLS Property Information Network covers most of the state.  The Cape & Islands MLS covers Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket islands.  The Berkshire MLS covers the three westernmost counties - Hampden Hampshire and Berkshire counties.

You should be able to Google your county realtor association and find a phone number of representive for you to call. For example I would call the Milwaukee Area Realtors Association for details on MLS fees and the requirements for being an active real estate agent.

@A. Maldonado It depends on your local MLS rules.  In some locations you must not only be licensed, but also a Realtor (member of NAR).  In others you can be a non-NAR member.

In my locale, you must be licensed and you pay a higher rate if you're not a NAR member.

Put a call in to your local MLS and ask.
