Buying a Home for my family in Atlanta while i work in California

Hi All,

I never purchased a home but i am getting ready to buy my first home in the next 12-24 months. My wife and i live in norther California and i have stable job with good income. We also have good credit. My wife is from Atlanta and can't seem to accept living in California as she miss her family and want our two kids to grow up around her family. As a result i am thinking of buying my first house in Atlanta and move my family there while i continue to work in California for the near future. This is because my job pays good and have couple several salary increases scheduled. I would eventually look for a job in Atlanta and move in 5 years or less.  I want to know what are the guideline and if the plan is possible.

I can easily get a room in the area i work for about $500 a month pay the mortgage in Atlanta comfortably

Can i still qualify for FHA in Atlanta while i work in Cali?

What is the best way to make this happen?

please provide your answers, opinions, input, suggestions to help me decide better.

Thank you in Advance.
