New to REI from Newark, California

Hi everyone I'm Justin from Newark, California. I have been thinking about getting into REI for a few years now and really anything to provide alternative income. Nothing really popped out as something I wanted to try but recent unfortunate events made me reassess that. REI does interest me and has been on my mind for years and now I want to finally get into it for real. I don't know much about it but I have read the ultimate beginners guide on this site and hope to learn more from the experienced people on this site.

Why Real Estate? Because it has the potential to become passive income that could replace my current job and allow me to live where ever I choose.  Local Real Estate is far outside of my budget so I think I should learn how to invest long distance in more affordable areas.  A co worker recently completed his first investment in Indianapolis and as he discussed his journey it reinvigorated my excitement to try it myself.

So here I am looking to start my REI journey and I thank you for any help you have to offer.
