Aloha everyone,

I'm Mike from Maui, Hawaii. I'm looking to diversify my investments into real estate. Most likely buy and hold rentals. Not sure if I will focus on short term (vacation rentals) here in Maui or long term rentals on the mainland or abroad. I like the idea of multi family units but I'm still learning. I've been reading a lot and learning plenty about different locations but currently I only own 1 rental here in Maui.

I've been working with realtors on the side for quite a few years. By trade I'm a landscape photographer which takes me all over the place, but on occasion I help out local realtors by providing photo/video services for their listings. Over time I've gotten to know the market here in Maui pretty well, along with a good core four of realtors, contractors, lenders and property managers.

The problem I have with this location is how expensive it is to buy in. Our average home prices are around $700k and our average vacation rental 1bd/1ba condo is around $500k. While they produce well, they're a lot of work and maybe that investment is better suited to a 4-plex or something else in another location.

I'm really hoping to learn from everyone here and meet some new connections!
