Hello everyone on BP! My name is James Compton and I currently live in New Mexico but I have family in west Michigan and hope to invest there. I was born and raised in Kansas. I attended the University of Kansas and earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. I currently work for an oil company as an Economic Planner. I have a wonderful wife who is only slightly nervous about purchasing rental properties and two young awesome children.
I’m focused on buy and hold rentals, starting with single family homes and hopefully working into some small multi-families. My goal is to purchase my first property in 2017, focusing in Grand Rapids MI. Unfortunately, since I’m not in that area it will be hard to network face to face. However, we plan on making many trips back and I would love to meet up. I plan on using property management (again since I’m out of state). I also would love to work with a great real-estate agent and general contractor from the west Michigan / Grand Rapids area.

James, welcome to NM. I have been here for 2 years after living in Wichita for 7. I have properties in both areas. NM is a little harder to cash flow and surely more expensive. Take care, holler if you have any questions.
