New, humble & ready to learn...
Hello,
My name is Jeff McGurren and I am 32 years old. Currently, I reside in Londonderry New Hampshire with my wife and nine-month old son. I have no real history with the real estate market, I have always been in the creative fields. In 2010 I was still a single guy working in Los Angeles editing reality TV shows like Top Chef and Project Runway. I got fed up with the traffic, long hours and time away from my family/friends so I left for home (Northern MA) and started my own clothing fulfillment business called Articulate Creation. Screen printing, embroidery, graphic design and web design are some of the services I offer. After a few solid years of building some clientele the business is going fairly well. Still, I am not making the money I want to be making to live a comfortable life and provide for my wife (who I met just after moving back home) and son.
In January 2016 my wife and I sold the condo that we bought in 2014 and made 35k on the sale without putting much work to it (refinished a room in the basement is all we did). I quickly realized how much money can be made in the real estate market within a short period of time just from equity. My wife started taking real estate classes recently and is almost complete. She planned on using the license (once she passes the test) to be a typical real estate agent, but we have been recently discussing the idea of flipping houses. Her father is a contractor and is willing to be involved with doing the work to our homes if we can make it happen and prove to him that we are serious about it. We are now renting temporarily and have some cash in the bank for a down payment on a mortgage with zero debt. Purchasing a nice home to live in would be ideal and comfortable, but I am trying to be smart with the money. Flipping houses obviously takes money to get started so if we take out a mortgage for a home to live in we will likely be stuck doing what we currently do and never start diving into flipping real estate or investing. I am eager to hear suggestions and learn more about real estate investing in general from all of you (who certainly know much more than I do) by reading around this forum.
