Aspiring investor in Davenport, IA

Hello Bigger Pockets community!

Long time gawker, now I have finally decided to create an account. I am located in the Quad Cities (Davenport, within vicinity of Bettendorf IA, Rock Island and Moline IL). I have been exploring the idea of real estate investment for about a year. I was recently going to purchase my first house from an investor to occupy as my primary single family residence. Unfortunately, the deal fell through due to the seller not holding up to their contractual obligations. This deal sure taught me a lot at a potentially cheap price.. I learned I don't want a partnership (especially with Friends, Family or otherwise good clients). I also learned that; for the most part, the only person looking out for my best interest is me. The good news is my financing is all still in-tact and I'm mostly ready to move on. I am thinking I would like to start with a multifamily duplex, occupying one of the units initially (Because who DOESN'T want a free mortgage?!).  I have started listening to the podcasts and love all of the information I am getting. I'm definitely not ready to quit my job and dive in head first, but would love to be pointed in the right direction to do so. I would love to hear from all of you!

Sincerely,

Alex Bock
