New in New York

Hi BP Community!

My name is Jared, and I'm a BP newbie. I've been a licensed real estate agent in NY for 2 years,  and I'm looking to move into investing. Although I haven't got much experience (yet), I'm super passionate, relentlessly hard working, and committed to making this happen!

Current areas of interest are the New York Hudson Valley, specifically Ulster County, Dutchess County, and possibly Columbia County- but open to other areas depending on the parameters of the opportunities available. Rhode Island investments are on my radar as well.

My strategy will be buy and hold investing, BRRRR, with involvement in other areas as necessary, such as flipping and joint ventures that will help support me and facilitate my end goal- which is a portfolio of properties that produce significant passive income (shocker, right?). I also plan to become proficient in new construction and development projects when I'm ready. Very exciting to me.

I'd love to connect with anyone I can provide value to, and receive value from in return- other investors, mentors, agents, attorneys, CPAs, wholesalers, private and hard money lenders, title companies, joint venture partners, contractors. Really just open to learning as much as I possibly can from those who know- and putting it to good use.

I'll try to be as active as possible on BP, and look forward to attending as many local events as I can. Here's to building long-lasting, profitable relationships based on trust, hard work and mutually beneficial results. I'll be seeing you guys out there!

Jared

Side note: entertaining a brokerage move as an agent- brokers please inquire if interested or feel like there might be a good fit given my real estate investing goals.

Welcome, @Jared Gettinger.  I am also starting to look for projects in those areas, while living here in NYC. I am in the middle of some mailings right now, and hope to gather a deal soon. Good luck to you, and feel free to reach out if you think theres any way I can help.

@Alex Katos Hey Alex! I worked in Manhattan only, which is it's own world really, completely different from the mostly suburbs of Long Island. Tons of rentals, thousands of agents working an uber-competitive market, many of them using tactics and tricks that contribute to the bad reputation we often get. It can seem like the wild west sometimes, and it's easy to get lost in the sea of unsuccessful agents that quit after less than a year. I think it's incredibly important that you connect with professionals who have a good reputation if you're going to have a lasting career. It's similar to what the advise for investing, find a mentor, someone who's doing it the right way, and learn. It's all about referrals, relationships and networking with the right people so the business begins to come your way after you've worked for it. Otherwise you're posting fake ads on craiglist every day out of desperation to get (crappy) leads any way you can. Immediate success is nearly impossible, you must plant the seeds and nurture them for them to grow. For a brand new agent, it's far from what you see on television. Work hard, network with the right people, be humble, be hungry. Best of luck to you!

    Jared,

My name is Travis Ward and I am a Real Estate Consultant here and Ct and would be happy to work with you. I receive multiple NY properties on a daily bases from clients and associates. This includes everything from SFR, Multi, commercial, and Hotels. Let me know exactly what your criteria is and I can send over properties that I feel you would have interest in. I can also get you financing as that is the focal-point of my business.
