How to qualify a Foriegn Company wanting to Invest in your firm ?

I was approached by an international investor if they can invest in your company financially or joint venture. After getting off the floor ( seriously ) I thought about this question. "How would my company verify/qualify this foreign company’s standing financially or credit worthieness". There are too many horror stories about money laundering, scams in the business realm and I do not want to be a statistic.
