New Guy from Dallas TX

How's it going BP?!? I'm new to the site and real estate in general. I'm located in Dallas, TX specifically Oak Lawn. I grew up in Keller (north of Fort Worth) so DFW is my home town. I graduated college in May 2015 with an engineering degree. Since I am good with computers and technology in general I decided to get a job as a software engineer so far I enjoy programming since I get excited by solving complicated puzzles in unique ways.

My biggest goal in life right now is to have enough savings to be financially independent by the time I'm 30 (7 years from now). I plan to reach this goal by living below my means and 'stashing the difference. In the past few months that I've been working towards this goal I've been investing most of my saving in stocks, I would like to expand my portfolio to Real Estate soon (next 2 years). When I'm not working at my day job I'm reading, writing, listening to podcasts, biking, hiking/camping, following hockey (go Stars!), and playing board games with my friends.

As far as real estate goes for me I don't have much experience but I am trying to gain it as fast as possible. Currently I am reading anything I can get my hands on (books, blogs, forum discussions, etc), listening to the BP podcast daily and practicing analyzing deals I find on Zillow and Trulia. In the future I would be interested in investing in Multifamily, since I'm a young single guy house hacking sounds right up my alley. SFR also appeals to me. Flipping would be cool too since I like building things but currently I am seeking passive income, maybe this will change in the future.

I would be interested in attending a meet-up in Dallas, I don't know if there is one of those that happen on a regular schedule. If there is please let me know because I would be excited to attend! If there isn't a regular meet-up I would love to individually meet anyone who is interested, maybe run some deals I have analyzed by you (to get feedback I don't think any of them are good deals though), go driving for dollars with you or any other cool real estate thing you do and want help/company with, it's all new to me so I'm excited. Thanks for reading BP and have a good evening!
