Jacksonville Software Developer starting in Real Estate

Hey BP,

My name is Jason, I'm a Software Developer consultant and Navy veteran living in Jacksonville, FL. My wife, who I met after she bought her townhouse, bought in late 2007, so the value dropped considerably after the economy collapsed.  I married into owning it, and we recently bought a house, and knew we wanted to rent it out instead of selling for a loss.

Turns out that we were able to rent it out for enough to generate some tiny monthly CF, but having someone build up my equity for me and essentially breaking even was enough to give me the real estate bug.  My goals are long term, my wife and I are shooting for retiring in our 50s through passive income, so I'm more interested in buy and hold than flips.  We're fortunate enough to be in the financial position to pick up more properties, so I've started reading books, listening to BP podcast, and talking to some realtors in the area.

There's also a local meetup that I will be attending, hoping to meet some like minded individuals.   Hopefully I can help out some experienced investors in my market with some tech abilities in exchange for someone who's brain I can pick when I have questions about local markets, deals, etc.

Thanks for stopping by, super excited to start increasing my wealth!
