I'm an old but relatively unseasoned real estate investor. I bought my first home during the Carter administration when interest rates were near 18% in Bessemer, AL. Since then I've bought and sold homes in Cincinnati, OH; Jupiter, FL; Dix Hills, NY; Hoover, AL; Cullman, AL and Montevallo, AL. With the exception of the Montevallo home, where I'm partners with my brother, they've all been my primary residence.

Now I'm interested in buying my first rental property just for me and my wife. I'm looking in the city of Cullman, Alabama which is close to where I live. The City of Cullman has great schools. That's why I'm looking there. Our idea is to buy our first one with cash and if it goes well, use leverage for additional properties as they arise.

I'm also pretty handy and I anticipate keeping up with whatever we buy, pretty much myself.

I'm excited to learn as much as I can through this site and by reading anything good, I can get my hands on. I am currently reading Real Estate Investing for Dummies. I figure I'll start at the beginning.
