Hiyos BP members!

My name is Ron Rowe and I joined BP this week to learn from the community of real estate investors here so I can get started on my own REI journey. I am a true newbie to real estate but....that means I am a blank slate ready and eager to learn. My background as a professor of philosophy and more recently as an attorney give me all the tools necessary to over analyze and become paralyzed to action so I need resources like this one to help me be confident in my choices and to give me motivation to take the plunge.

My goals in real state are pretty simple: I want to achieve financial independence for my family and establish a nice portfolio of assets that I can pass on to my children. At this point, I need to work deals on the side of my full time job as an attorney but I hope that someday in the next 5-10 years I am successful enough to quit my job and work more seriously on investing (or at least have that option).

My immediate goals here at BP, in addition to soaking up as much content and discussion as possible, are to get a shout a shout out from Jon Holdman (that guy is everywhere right?) and have my iTunes review read on a future podcast. :):) Seriously though, I have already learned a TON about REI in the past week with the blogs, podcasts and forums and look forward to more discussions with members as I move forward. Welcome Ron,

I live in JC and have been a part of the BP community for about a year now. As a result of BP I have learned TONS and have 3 buy and holds under my belt and am looking for a 4th. The best advice that I can give you right off the bat is to pay attention to the 70% rule and the 1% rule if you intend to be a buy and hold investor. If you adhere to these rules, it is hard to go wrong.
