Hello BiggerPockets! New PRO here

Hello BiggerPockets community! I'm Robert from Portland Oregon, passionate about real estate investing, but new to the market and excited to learn more. I'm particularly excited to learn more about mid term rentals, BRRR method, and any other strategies people find still work in our current economic climate. I have a pretty big chunk of cash sitting on the sidelines that I would love to deploy to start building long term generational wealth.

Outside of real estate, I enjoy snowboarding, rock climbing, surfing, and recently obtained my private pilot certificate.

Excited to learn and connect with you all!

    Welcome to BiggerPockets!

We’re thrilled you've joined us. BiggerPockets is full of resources designed to help you along your journey, whether you are just getting started or a seasoned investor. Here are a few suggestions on how you can maximize the wealth of information available:

    1. Check out the blogs and podcasts, or take advantage of the search feature (magnifying glass). There's a very good chance the issue(s) you face have already been discussed and answered.
    2. Ask questions in the appropriate forum. If you need financial help, ask under the "Finance, Tax, and Legal" forum. Asking in the correct forum will get a better response.
    3. Need a spreadsheet or form? Check out FilePlace, where user-created forms are available for free. A link to FilePlace is at the bottom of every page, so it is easy to find.
    4. If you have technical issues, send an email to [email protected] and someone will help you.
    5. Have a problem in the forums? We pride ourselves in keeping the forums positive, helpful, and focused on real estate (please, no politics, religion, etc.). If you see someone violating the rules, create a post with "@moderators" and we will receive a notification and respond.

Again, welcome to BiggerPockets and happy investing!

Welcome. There are a million different strategies. If you are literally just starting then spend some time researching the pros and cons of each, but don’t overthink it. The best way to learn if a strategy is for you is to jump in and take action on one.

    Robert,

Welcome to BP! Lots of Portland-area folks on here, so you should be able to get great advice if you ask specific questions. Value-add strategies like BRRRR can work well in any market provided that you buy low enough (the challenge for all of us). Happy to send recommendations if that would be helpful! DM me if you want to talk more.

Welcome, Robert! Mid-term rental and BRRRR strategies are definitely solid approaches to start with. Having some capital to deploy gives you a lot of flexibility, and it's smart to explore different strategies to build that long-term wealth. I've been in real estate for awhile and would be happy to connect and share insights. Feel free to get in touch.

Welcome to the forums! There are certainly some opportunities to build a portfolio using the BRRRR strategy. The tough question can be in the exit with where rates are. Yes, you can ultimately own a property with little/nothing out of pocket when you're done - but when you reposition with today's rates even moderately leveraged stabilized assets can be hard to find cashflow with debt service and a realistic operating expense load. I think a conversation about long-term goals is in order!
