Hello, looking at investing in SFH rentals

Hello, my name is Dennis, I am new to the idea of investing. 

Greensboro, MD (Eastern Shore of Maryland) was not an option for location and I am pretty far away from the choices it showed.

A friend suggested that I listen to BiggerPockets podcast, after 30 episodes, I finally decided to join the forum. 

My main goal is to get into rentals, but we are first looking at a piece of property and building on it for ourselves. Once this is done, I want to start moving towards rentals, possible flips, but more interested in the rental business.

I own a business already. I design houses, additions, remodels, etc. I am very versed in residential construction and house design, so it has been a great business. I want multiple streams of income, hence the thought to move into rentals.
