New Immigrant and I want to start my portfolio ... What can I do?

Hi everyone, I've been listening (podcasts & YT videos) to different real estate investors since I lived abroad and when I moved here to California I instantly got excited about chasing the American dream through real estate investing. I officially moved here last March and I have no tax history yet here in the US. Is that a major factor? I'm still learning and yes it is an unending journey but I was wondering what are my options? Very much excited to learn from everyone here in Bigger Pockets. Thank you in advance!
