STR in Land Between the Lakes / Western KY
Hello all,
I was curious if anyone here has a STR around the Land Between the Lakes (LBL) area on the border of KY/TN. I'm currently in the military and work out of Fort Campbell but my primary residence is on the western side of the lake , have a log home on 24 acres with a very large pole barn and 6 stalls for horses, also within 1/10th of a mile from KY lake and around a 1 mile drive to a public boat ramp. There's also public hunting land that isn't frequented too often. In addition, there are horse riding areas around from the property and within a short drive, as well as all of the activities at the LBL recreational area.
I am considering moving closer to Fort Campbell as I want to begin investing in the Clarksville TN area, plus I drive a little over an hour one way to work everyday. I used the VA loan on the residence and have only been there closing in on a year. It's my first home I have purchased. Currently have a roommate who pays me
Half on everything, so it’s not a terrible gig.. but I’m running ideas on what I can do to best set myself up for my real estate investing journey.
I write all of that just to say I'm curious if anyone has STRs in that general vicinity and how they perform. In my head, it seems like a great area and there's one house I know of close by that is an STR and it seemed frequented fairly often.
Thanks in advance,
Alec

Maybe there is a way to balance in between staying there or moving away and then doing a STR. With that much land and unique features like the barn, you could just start hosting some people camping or RVs on your property. Get your feet wet, learn the STR business, and make some money. I am actually helping a buddy think through this for some property he has on Ft Loudoun Lake outside Knoxville. He eventually wants to build a cabin but is going to begin with some camping platforms and allow the cash flow from the Airbnb to fund the cabin.
Message me if you would like to talk some options.
I had some friends go through the base in the 101st and 5th group. Thanks for your service.
