Hot Spot Vacation Rentals

Hey all, I'm interested in purchasing a vacation rental that I can rent out the majority of the year but use a few weeks for my own enjoyment a few weeks a year. Anyone have any suggestions for areas that have proved good for their vacation rentals? I am mainly interested in the south (Florida, Georgia, Texas) or the west (Montana, Washington, Oregon) but would love to hear where others find to be good vacation locations. Also, I am curious how you manage your vacation rentals if you have them out of state!

Southern California coastal cities! Why?

  • Strong economy
  • You can get here from anywhere as there are several airports serviced by all major airlines
  • Beautiful beaches with lots of recreational opportunities
  • Perfect year round weather, means more rentable days
  • Amusement parks galore
  • Sporting events
  • Tourists from around the world
  • Museums
  • Shopping
  • and so much more!

We are builders with projects (homes and condos) in a few of the south Orange County beach cities, and the potential buyers are both families and vacation rental business owners. When looking for a city to reboot business after the crash, southern California was the obvious choice, for all the reasons I listed. Though real estate is expensive, the properties also bring in some of the highest rental rates.
