Short Term Rental Sandy Utah

Diane Darling
Posted

I am looking at the Sandy City code and it says that a short term rental has to be owner occupied and only rented out for 180 days in the year.  What do you all do on the other 180 days or does it not rent out that often?  Also, does the home have to be super updated in order to rent it out as a short term rental in Sandy?

Hey @Diane Darling, so you are maxed at 182 nights a year unless you have an ADU where you live and that can be STRed 365 days.

There isn't any provision for any other way to rent that I can see. You must have a license to operate and there is a limited number. There appears to be plenty available for the entire city but they are issued by community. Some have zero issued, some have none available.

For the other 183 days it will have to sit empty. I am not sure if they really monitor it a ton. IE - If it is Dec and you end up with a 10 day Christmas booking that puts you at 195 days do they clamp down.

Regarding super updated, yes. It needs to be nice and well appointed. The days are gone of grabbing furniture off the curb and tossing it in your rental.
