To renovate or not to renovate

Jack Aubrey
Posted

I need some advice. I inherited 3 acres in Florida with a 4 bedroom manufactured home on it. I own this property free and clear. I have found a reputable property management company since I am an out-of-state owner.

The house has sat unoccupied since 2017, and even before my mum's passing, it needed MAJOR renovations. There was a roof structure built over the entire house that needs to go, and honestly, I think the house needs to be rebuilt from the ground up.

There is electricity to the property, but a new septic system is in order. The well is good. I could spend the money, I suppose, but I'm inclined to sell it or somehow get it off the land so I can drop another manufactured house on the property and stop feeding this alligator.

It's been suggested to buy a second MH, put it on the property and use the money from that to renovate this one, but I just don't know if it's worth fixing up. Can anyone give me some advice, please?
