Renter curious about tearing up carpets (question for landlords)
Hello I just moved into a rental house a couple months ago and have signed a year lease with likely potential to stay longer. I enjoy at home projects and have the spare time to do so in between my career. The home is great but the carpet is old (perhaps might be at least 10 or 14 years old), smells bad and makes the rental feel musty. The location of this home is amazing though, in the mountains so I took it. I have researched how to either lay plywood over the carpet and then lay sheet vinyl down over top which the landlord said I could do. I would rather tear the carpet up and then just lay sheet vinyl over the plywood that is already under the carpet for a few reasons, so the doors can still open/so the floor is level etc., because I have the time and energy to do so, and to get the smelly carpet out. I haven't yet asked my landlord about tearing the carpet out. If your tenet came to you and wanted to make this improvement on your rental and paid for all fees for it, would you consider it? Thank you for the advice!
