Our NJ governor has just declared via Royal Fiat that any tenant - any - whether adversely affected or not- can use their security deposit to pay rent, either whole or part.

We can still sue in civil court for damages though! Gee, thanks.

So now I wait to see who will jump on this. There is absolutely no downside to any tenant taking advantage of this and putting a couple extra grand in their pocket. The ultimate test.

Security deposits belong to the tenant....  i dont see any issue with them using that deposit to pay the landlord in this crazy time.....  or would you rather not get rent?

Most people dont destroy houses because most people are decent.  Not because you are holding a security deposit
